Hello everyone and welcome to my website and online shop.
My artist name is Olillia. It is a word that came to my mind long ago… long before I seriously dedicated myself to drawing. At a time I was studying Italian in Rome and working as a waitress in one really posh restaurant in via Veneto. I remember that I was daydreaming during a hot summer afternoon on a beautifully lit restaurant terrace when I suddenly had the idea of this artistic name. I found it pretty cool and kept it. Then one day when I needed a name for my illustration brand I already had one.
My real name is Olga. I am a designer and illustrator and not long ago I became a naturalized citizen of Portugal. I live in Lisbon and I absolutely admire this city not only for its vibrant light and atmosphere but also for the feeling of home it gives me.
Originally I´m from Moscow which is totally opposite to Lisbon. If you had lived in Moscow you would have understood. Russia is a country of rich vibrant culture and great talented people but cold climate, monotonous architecture, big crowds at peak hours, long traffic jams and only six minutes of sunshine in a whole month…. pretty depressing, isn’t it?
Frankly speaking I´ve always dreamt of leaving the country so one day I chose “the city of light” to become my new home.
The only capital facing the Atlantic Ocean has been celebrated by poets, painters and other artists, as well as captured by the most renowned photographers and filmmakers…. and it is a place that nurtures me and gives me so much inspiration.
Here in Lisbon I did my Masters in Graphic Design and then started doing a PHD on women representation in comic books of 1960-1970s in Italy studying Guido Crepax and Milo Manara works but haven´t yet brought it to the end for various reasons.
I am self-taught and I drew since my early childhood but my parents weren´t keen to hear me want to become an artist. They surely wanted a better life for me and were afraid that it wouldn’t be a profitable career.
I finally turned things around after my daughter was born, that is almost 14 years ago. Then I realized that becoming an artist is a major commitment and drawing became not only my passion but my profession.
One may ask (and people often do) why did I choose such a sensitive topic? Why erotic art?
As humans we have a basic need… love… it is an intense desire to be loved and nurtured, receiving love and giving it back. According to the ancient greeks there are many different types of love: physical love, romantic love, parental love, sibling love, etc…. It is the glue that holds us all together and makes life worth living. The first kind of love is Eros, named after the Greek God of fertility. Eros is passion, lust and pleasure.
Picasso once said: art is sex.
However, my art is not only about sexual arousal and love making but is aimed to empowering women, it is about breaking barriers with regard to women, sex and pleasure because even if we are in XXIst century not everyone feels comfortable talking about those topics.
